MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling - Cornerstone University (In Progress)

Everyone has a story. The thing about a good story is that there's always conflicts or challenges that have to be overcome. Personally, I've had times where the challenges just felt like too much, and I needed help to figure out how to navigate through chapters of my life. As a counselor, I have the great privilege to help my clients understand their own story, identifying the problems that seem to be holding them back, and coming up with a plan on how my clients can learn new skills and use their own strengths to progress to the next chapter of their story. Not only will we find healing along the way, but we will discover the hero that lies with each of us (and who doesn't love a good hero)!

Outside of counseling, I love playing games, cooking, and going on new adventures. I'm a huge fan of the TV show SURVIVOR, and love playing disc golf and pickleball.

My Approach

My approach in counseling primarily uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solutions-focused therapy. CBT is derived from the concept that our thoughts impact our core beliefs, and our core beliefs are what cause our behavior (whether good or bad!). By changing our thoughts, we can ultimately change our behavior. Solutions-focused therapy spends time identifying problems and coming up with strategic plans on how to solve those problems. While I largely draw from those therapies, I also may include other theoretical approaches when it benefits my clients and their unique circumstances.

What you can expect

I know that counseling can be intimidating and even scary at the beginning. You can expect that when you come in for counseling with me, you will meet someone who is already in your corner, wanting to help you be the best version of yourself. You'll be in an environment where you are respected and where you can come just how you are, without fear of judgement or rejection. We will work together in our first few sessions to get to know one another and learn about your story. We will establish the problems you would like to improve and then come up with a plan together on how we will accomplish those goals.
